Port A Chamber Partner of the Week

(September 30, 2024) Sandollar Sity was established in 1990 when Port Aransas residents Mike and Sheryl Arnold purchased the property on the beach. They absolutely loved running it and they could always be found on the patio with guests who became friends who keep coming back.

When people would call and ask if there was a pool on-site, Mike used to tell them that they had the biggest swimming pool in the world right outside the front door! The Gulf of Mexico is literally right outside your front door when you stay at Sandollar Sity and every room has its own patio for you to enjoy the view. They have an Elvis-inspired room, which was Sheryl’s favorite, and which has been kept the same in honor of her memory. One of the units is a house that sleeps up to 8 people; it truly is your house on the beach for the length of your stay.

The Sandollar Sity family lost Mike and Sheryl in 2021 and 2022, respectively. They were very supportive of local nonprofits during their lifetimes. Sheryl cared for Mike during his illness and ran Sandollar Sity until her last day on earth. Sandollar Sity was closed for a short time after their deaths, but long-time guests kept calling for reservations. They shared fond memories of staying there and spending time with Mike and Sheryl.

The complete list of local organizations Mike and Sheryl supported has been lost to history, but Sandollar Sity has supported and continues to support: The Port Aransas Community Theater, The Port Aransas Education Foundation, Texas SandFest, Port Aransas ISD, Port Aransas Art Center, VFW, Port Aransas Volunteer Fire Department, and Outboard Tournament.
